“The wines of kings, the king of wines.” This is how Louis XIV described Tokaji.

Much has changed since his time, but Tokaji hasn’t. At least not at the Slovak winery Tokaj & CO. There, the winemakers produce Tokaji wine according to the old methods. They hand-pick botrytized grapes, which are grape berries infected with a noble fungus. They macerate them in a dry wine of the same vintage. And then they let the wine mature in cellars that their predecessors dug out of volcanic igneous rock.

This is also how these vintages of select Tokaj were created. They will take you on a journey with their scent of honey and oak, they’ll surprise you with the taste of figs, candied fruit, and caramel.

With years of archiving their tastes blended together and became smooth. The sugar integrated and yielded to the more distinctive fruity tastes. This is why the experience of drinking these Slovak Tokaji wines is so unrepeatable.

Find out what kind of Tokaji wines were created in the favorable vintage years of 2003, 2007 and 2009. Treat yourself or someone who’s special to you to a gift tasting set.

Archival Tokaji is an extraordinary gift for real wine lovers.

“I’ve selected wines from the Slovak part of the Tokaji region for you. There is significantly less production in Slovakia than in Hungary, and the wineries use older methods in winemaking and oxidation. That’s why in this tasting set you’ll taste what are truly the best Tokaji wines with a great potential for archiving.”

Jan Pánek, sommelier and founder of Via Tempia

What can you expect in this wine tasting set?

We’ve selected 3 excellent vintages. One of the things that differs in these wines is how many botrytized grapes the winemakers used to make them. For instance, 6-puttonyos wines require 6 wooden baskets (6 x 25 kg) to produce 136 l of wine. The more puttonyos of botrytized grapes, the more intense the wine’s taste and bouquet.

Tokaji select 6-puttonyos 2003 by Tokaj & CO – sweet wine

Intense. That’s the 6-puttonyos Tokaji wine from 2003.

Look forward to seeing its royal amber color. Its strong, distinctive aroma foretells a sweet taste with tones of caramel, figs, and candied fruit. With years of maturation these flavors have blended and developed together. Therefore, an archival Tokaji is very smooth and at the same time intensely fruity.

The winemakers from Tokaj & CO themselves recommend archiving their 6-puttonyos wines. Even when they were young, they were exceptionally intense, but it’s only after years of maturation that they reach their full potential.

Tokaji select 5-puttonyos 2007 by Tokaj & CO – sweet wine

A golden amber color. The aroma of honey and caramel. The typical sweet, rich and intertwined with bready notes, spreads across your tongue.

As soon as you taste the 5-puttonyos Tokaji 2007 you’ll fall in love. Just like we did.

120 grams of sugar, and high alcohol content and acidity predestine the Slovak Tokaji select 2007 for archiving. Taste how the wine has developed and become smooth during its years in the cellar. Or give it more years in your personal archive.

Tokaji select 4-puttonyos 2009 Tokaj & CO – sweet wine

Tokaji select 2009 is a thick, amber wine. It smells of honey and tastes like chocolate and vanilla. With years of maturation in a tuff cellar its tastes have blended together, and become smoother and more harmonious. That’s why each sip of Tokaji 2009 is an unrepeatable experience.

Treat yourself to it as an aperitif. Or serve it to your guests for dessert.

It will repay you for each year of archiving. Thanks to its high content of sugar, alcohol, and acidity, it has a rich potential for further maturation.
